Ride the 2019 TOMR in The Breakaway!
If you don’t have a team, if you’re a junior rider, or if you’re not up for racing and just love to ride, you can still experience the entire Tour of Margaret River on The Breakaway. Hosted by the North Beaches Cycling Club, four glorious rides over three days are on offer.
STAGE 1: GOLD RUSH – FRIDAY NOV 8TH
Join 600 Tour of Margaret River racers in the township of Nannup for Stage 1: Gold Rush. You will launch from the Nannup Piazza one hour ahead of the racers in the Breakaway, with team after team being launched behind you in time trial formation to race along one of the most picturesque local routes in the Nannup district. Undulating, winding and incredibly scenic, this 27km 377m route rises gently along the Vasse Highway until it turns into Gold Gully Road, where it climbs to 305m at the halfway point, before launching riders into an exhilarating downhill run home . When you arrive back in Nannup, you will be greeted by cheering spectators and you can kick back in the EY event village and watch the teams arrive. Start time 11:00am in Nannup.
STAGE 2: THE KANDALEE CATAPULT – SATURDAY NOV 9TH
Test your climbing legs on the 51km 836m Kandalee Catapult. Starting an hour ahead of the race, will you reach the township of Greenbushes before the first wave of racers rounds the final corner and sprints up the straight to cross the finish line? This route takes you out of Nannup along the undulating Brockman Highway, then turns you left and upwards onto the iconic Maranup Ford Road. Once you summit Kandalee Hill, the road will catapult you towards the finish line in Greenbushes. Start time 8am in Nannup.
(Please note: a user-pays shuttle bus service will be provided for those riders who need transport to return to Nannup. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information)
STAGE 3: MUR DE HAY – SUNDAY NOV 10TH
Featuring the infamous Mur De Hay hilltop finish, this 69.5km 943m stage starts in Nannup, heads north to Cundinup South Road, onto Cundinup-Kirup Road, crosses the South Western Highway at Kirup and continues to Balingup on Kirup-Grimwade Road and Grimwade Road. This route is another of the South West’s most scenic, with roads that wind, climb and descend through rolling green pastures, Jarrah forests, orchards, vineyards and pine plantations. Start time 7am in Nannup.
STAGE 4: THE CATHEDRAL – SUNDAY NOV 10TH
Named for the majestic trees that line this 41km 472m route, The Cathedral allows you to experience one of Western Australia’s premier touring routes by bike.
